The article I read was about a man named Theodore Berger and his memory implnats. Berger has stuidied the memory portion of the brain for quite sometime and found that when you have memory loss it is because the nuerons stop working, so he thinks he has figured out a way to copy the signal and to make memories more long term. This may help with Alzhiemer's in the future. Although none have been testeed on humans the test that were conducted on rats and monkey brains were a sucess.
Yes, there were indeed technologies that were new and exciting back in 2012 that are now just everyday products or uses.
